PASUMPAHAN ISLAND

PASUMPAHAN ISLAND

Pulau Pasumpahan

Most interesting tourist attraction in this island are Diving, Snorkeling, and Camping. Pasumpahan Island as Pulau Pasumpahan in Bahasa Indonesia is a very small island covers the area around 5ha contain Mangrove forest, Palm trees, White sands, the sea creatures like colorful fishes, sea turtles, and coral reefs ecosystem. Some of the tourists who came to this island also loves to swim around the island, start from the east side to the north side of the island and then back to where we start. It takes normally around 2hours, yes a little bit of a challenge here of course if you imagine swimming on the ocean that long. However, with the current quiet and diverse marine life, peoples sometime ignore how exhausted it can be, just enjoy all the feeling which slowly replaced with the admiration to nature. The waves were rather strong that came from the opposite side of the swim lanes were only found on the west side of the island but with a good Snorkeling instruments, good swimming suit and a waterproof camera, will keep us busy even produce the extra energy to finish that 2km swimming distance.

Pasumpahan Island is in the administrative area of Bungus, Teluk Kabung district, Padang city, West Sumatra, located not so far from Sikuai island around 200m and 45km from Padang city. In addition to various types of coral reef fish / ornamental fish like red lionfish (Pterois volitans), teripang/sotong (Sepia sp) dominated by Chaetodon trifascialis which can be found near Padang underwater are also very interesting to be enjoyed by tourists

Malin kundang stone
Some of the Minang Kabau tribe believe the name of this Pasumpahan Island inspired from the Malin Kundang folk tale, its a story about a child who lives poor near the beach with his mother. One day he was sailing like usual and never coming back, there he became a wealthy merchant and land his ship on the beach, his mother came to him and he denied to meet that old, poor and dirty woman. after a few time begging the mother cursed Malin Kundang that he would turn into a stone if he didn't apologize. Malin Kundang just laughed and set sail. In the quiet sea, suddenly a thunderstorm came. His huge ship was wrecked and it was too late to apologized. He was thrown by the wave out of his ship, fell on a small island, and suddenly turned into stone. "Pasumpahan" means "Vow"

Pasumpahan IslandWell enough with the story, :D back to the island which attract many local tourists and foreigners beside its quiet ocean surroundings, white sands and coral reefs ecosystem, some peoples also loves camping in the Island, yes its possible to spend the night Naturally , dont dream about a homestay like in Pagang Island & Pamutusan Island or the other islands nearby, Pasumpahan Island has no hotel/homestay except an abandoned old hut, looks slowly destroyed by nature and no longer maintained. Water resource is possible for washing only, so make sure to bring enough mineral water to drink and a good tent if you plan to stay in the island. Sleep under the tree or even the beach when you have a good sleeping bag, is also an option. Pasumpahan Island is a good choice for most beginners diving class, because of its typical quiet ocean

We organized a tour to this island check here for details

TESSO NILO NATIONAL PARK

Tesso Nilo National Park

Tesso Nilo national park is a home for the most rare and endangered flora and fauna, it's one of the most largest lowland rainforest in Sumatra not so far from Pekanbaru the capital city of Riau Province, the park covers more than 90.000 hectares of forested land when it was officially declared as a National Park on august 28th, 2004 by the Indonesian government. Its growth more than twice as large of its former size by december the same year.

Welcome to Tesso Nilo National Park
Tesso Nilo national park stretches along 4 districts, namely the districts of Palalawan, Indragiri Hulu, Kuantan Sengingi and Kampar. Tesso Nilo is planned to be expanded to cover 100,000 hectares to serve not only as the lungs for the Indonesia archipelago but also for the world.

Riau used to have large tracts of jungle, however, because of large scale wild fires, and the building of palm oil plantations, almost two third of primary forests here has been destroyed.

For this reason, to stem further degradation, the government has mapped out the area as a National Park, while plantations already in the park are being reverted to the jungles.

But, biologists assert that the Tesso Nilo National Park still contains abundant tropical vascular plant species, surpassing those found in the Amazon region. The park is habitat to Sumatra’s endangered elephants, tigers, and tapirsThere are boars, deer, sun bear and other wildlife.

Three species of primates include the agile gibbon and siamang protected types, 14 kinds of ectoparasites and 50 species of fish and 33 species of herpetofauna (the types of reptiles and amphibians). One of the reptiles are common and are highly protected sinyulong crocodile (Tomistoma schlegelii)In 2012 Tesso Nilo counted some 150 elephants, while WWF found tracks of 50 Sumatran tigers.   Nonetheless, the close proximity of the Park to human settlements still cause wild elephants to wander into villages and considered as pests by the local inhabitants.   Illegal logging and wildfires also continue to threaten the Park.

What to do in the Tesso Nilo national park?
There are many activities here as the area is beeing maintained by the WWF (World Wild Fund) Indonesia now, there several teams like Elephants & Tigers conflicts, they are 2 different team. Flying Squad is the team who manage the elephant conflicts, its like a fast respond team when the villagers had an issues with elephants. There are 2 bedrooms in one Tesso guesthouse and 2 houses available plus extra beds at the national park near WWF flying squad camp. its around 2km away from the nearest village. theres should be enough space for upto 50 peoples altogether with the camping area and also the hall. Tesso nilo national park has an Helipad so its possible for some of the VVIP’s to flight straight to the camp and skip the dead roads.
